Overview

Typical manufacturers tolerances are not acceptable to most end users. Factory run-out tolerances for vertical motors start at .004" for small motors and up to .009" for larger machines. To respond to this we offer our clients the flange facer tool, which attaches to the motor shaft and grinds the face true to the axis of the bearings. We can give our customers a finished product with a .0005" total indicator reading on the mounting flange.

Benefits

The Flange Facer Enables Repair of:

  • Raised Face Flanges
  • RTJ Grooves
  • Weld Prep Profiles
  • Compact Flange Profiles
  • Hub Profiles
  • Seal Grooves
  • Counter Bores
  • Swivel Ring Flanges
  • Recessed Gaskets
  • Lens Ring Profiles

Process

The flange facer tool attaches to the motor shaft and grinds the face true to the axis of the bearings. This provides a finished product with a certain total indicator reading on the mounting flange. The machine clamps to the item, which is done through hydraulic cylinders or mechanical screw jacks.

The rotary drive unit consists of:

  • VFD Controlled Motor
  • Worm Reduction Gear Box
  • Bearing Supported Spindle Drive

The cross axis consists of:

  • Box Type Ram
  • Lead Screw
  • Box Nut Mechanism
  • VFD Controlled Motor

The vertical feed is generally manual for depth of cut setting. The flange facer is suitable for vertical, horizontal and any angular mounting.
